Why We Don’t Make Travel Size Beauty Products

Why We Don’t Make Travel Size Beauty Products

Close-up photo of Sonia Roselli products A Question We Get A Lot: Where Are The Travel Sizes?

So, you've probably been wondering, "Why doesn't Sonia Roselli Beauty do travel size versions of all their products?"

Well, as a brand that's super passionate about being green, we've got some pretty important reasons to say "no" to travel and sample sizes. We'll show you what's happening behind the scenes.

Travel Sizes and the Planet: Not a Great Match

Greenwashing: A Sticky Issue

One big reason we've put the brakes on creating more travel size beauty products is this whole thing called packaging greenwashing.

Bet you didn't know that just about 9% of plastics in the U.S actually get recycled, right? And those bioplastics that are all the rage now? Yeah, they've got issues too.

Some need heavy-duty heating just to break down, which is not great for our planet. Smaller packaging for these guys could lead to a whole lot of waste.

It's All About The Money, Honey

Then there's the financial side of things.

Believe it or not, making travel sizes costs almost as much as the full-size ones. This puts small indie brands like us in a bit of a bind.

If we make large batches of products, that we would never be able to run through, we could end up with a lot of waste and a whole lot of money stress.

And that could mean fewer of the new and exciting products you love.

Landfills Are Not Our Friends

Here's the kicker: smaller products end up in the trash more often, contributing to landfill waste. Plus, did you know that the beauty industry is responsible for a third of all landfill waste? That's a big, scary number, and we don't want to make it any bigger.

Our Vision: Beauty Can Be Greener

Here at SRB, we're on a mission to bring you beauty solutions that are sustainable and to keep pushing the envelope with our packaging choices. We've always had a soft spot for glass packaging, but even that's got its problems. We have to be sure consumers are recycling their glass. So that has to be on all of us. We're really focused on the environmental impact of our products and their packaging.

Tackling Sustainability Head-On

We might be a small team, but we're super committed to figuring out these complex environmental issues. As a brand, we believe it's our job to dive into these tough topics and find solutions, no matter how big we are or how many resources we have compared to the big guys. But the packaging industry isn't being very helpful, if I am being really honest.

In a Nutshell: The Planet Comes First

We're not making travel sizes because we're choosing to take care of the planet. We didn't ignore your requests—we're just thinking about the health of our world. We're all about long-term sustainability and maintaining the integrity of our brand, rather than chasing quick bucks to sell hard and fast. But don't worry, if we find a solution, we will then open a convo about sample sizes.

The Real No BS Story Behind the Beauty Business

We hope this blog post gives you a peek into our packaging decisions and the challenges of running a beauty business in a green way. We're always thinking about how we can do better with our packaging, and our goal is to come up with creative solutions that are good for the earth.

Effortless Travel Essential: Decanting Japanese Cleansing Oil for Jetsetters

Japanese Cleansing Oil

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Preparation: Before you begin the decanting process, ensure that you have a smaller container with a secure lid that's suitable for travel.

  2. Leak Proof Bottle: Choose a container that is leak-proof to avoid any unfortunate spills during your journey.

  3. Shake Well: Gently shake the original Japanese Cleansing Oil bottle before decanting. This step ensures that the product is thoroughly mixed, and its various components are well-blended. A well-shaken oil guarantees maximum effectiveness during your skincare routine away from home.

  4. Clean and Dry Hands: Make sure your hands are clean and dry before handling the decanting process. Any impurities or moisture could compromise the integrity of the product.

  5. Unscrew the Cap: Carefully unscrew the cap of the Japanese Cleansing Oil bottle. Be cautious to avoid any spills or drips at this stage. Use funnel if needed.

  6. Decanting Process: With steady hands, pour the Japanese Cleansing Oil into the smaller container. A steady pour will prevent unnecessary waste and ensure you transfer an accurate amount.

  7. Fill Up to 3/4: To prevent potential leakage during travel, avoid filling the smaller container to the brim. Leave approximately 1/4 of the container empty to accommodate any expansion caused by temperature changes during transit.

  8. Secure the Lid Tightly: After decanting the desired amount, seal the smaller container's lid tightly. This will prevent any leakage and maintain the freshness of the cleansing oil during your journey.

  9. Label the Container: To avoid confusion with other skincare products, label the smaller container clearly. Include the product name and its purpose to easily identify it during your daily skincare routine while traveling.

  10. Pack with Care: Place the securely sealed and labeled smaller container of Japanese Cleansing Oil in a ziplock bag or a separate compartment in your toiletry bag. This additional layer of protection ensures that even if any leakage occurs, it won't spoil other items in your luggage.

With your carefully decanted Japanese Cleansing Oil, you can now maintain your skincare routine effortlessly while traveling. Enjoy the benefits of a well-mixed and convenient skincare product, keeping your skin fresh and radiant throughout your adventures!

Sexapeel Exfoliation Spray

Traveling with Sexapeel Instant Exfoliation Spray? Read This First!

While we cannot endorse or encourage the decanting of Sexapeel Instant Exfoliation Spray into a smaller container for travel purposes, we understand that some individuals may choose to do so. If you decide to proceed, please keep in mind that Sexapeel's formula is viscous and not all sprayers may handle it effectively.

However, some experienced makeup artists have reported success in decanting.

If you are determined to try this, here are some tips that may or may not work for you:

  1. Choose a Suitable Container: Ensure the smaller container you select is made of high-quality materials and is designed for storing beauty products. Look for one with a spray mechanism that can handle thicker liquids.

  2. Clean and Sterilize: Thoroughly clean and sterilize both the original Sexapeel spray bottle and the smaller container before transferring the product. This step is essential to prevent contamination and maintain product integrity.

  3. Shake Well: Mix Sexapeel well before decanting to ensure it's properly mixed with the product. Shake well for at least 60-90 seconds.

  4. Decanting Process: Gently pour the Sexapeel Instant Exfoliation Spray into the smaller container. Take your time to avoid spills and waste, as the formula's viscosity may make it challenging to pour smoothly.

  5. Test the Sprayer: Before sealing the smaller container, test the sprayer with a small amount of the product to ensure it functions correctly and can handle the thicker consistency of Sexapeel.

  6. Securely Seal: Once you're satisfied with the decanting process and the sprayer's performance, securely seal the smaller container to prevent leakage during travel.

  7. Label the Container: Don't forget to label the smaller container clearly to avoid confusion with other products and ensure you know what's inside.

Remember, the reason we don't recommend decanting is due to the unique properties of Sexapeel's formula, which may pose challenges during the process.

Additionally, altering the original packaging could compromise the product's effectiveness and safety. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and best practices to ensure the best results. Happy travels!

Reader Questions:

Q: I understand the problems with creating travel-size products, but you cannot take the full-size product in your carry-on luggage when you travel. The current packaging doesn't let you transfer them to smaller containers. Any suggestions? - Sherry

A: While most of our products are below TSA-approved sizes, Sexapeel and Japanese Cleansing Oil are larger than TSA approved sizes.

For Japanese Cleansing Oil, you can decant it into a smaller container following the directions provided above. However, we don't recommend decanting Sexapeel due to its unique formula.

Water Balm

Q: Is it okay for me to put the balm or any other product in a travel-size container to take with me on trips? I’m a flight attendant and would love to use these products during my trips, but I just can't carry the full sizes. -Lisa

A: Yes, absolutely! We understand that as a flight attendant, carrying full-size products can be inconvenient. While our Water Balm, Intense Barrier Cream, Water Elixir and Water Oil comes in its original packaging of under 3 ounces, you are more than welcome to transfer it into a smaller jar or travel-size container or bottle for your convenience during your trips. You can decant Japanese Cleansing Oil. See directions above. For Sexapeel, we do not advise. Just Sexapeel before you leave! :)

However, we do have Sexapeel Gel for Face coming soon. Click link and get on the list when it launches.

Happy travels!
